The purpose of the Gender in Media Initiative is to elevate awareness of gender bias and stereotyping in media, and to explore how devalued portrayals of women and girls in media can lead to their diminished presence in positions of power and leadership in business and government. Similarly, the purpose of The Mistruths in Reality Forum is to convene a distinguished team of panelists, as well as the nationally recognized speaker Sil Lai Abrams, to engage attendees in conversation about the challenges surrounding gender bias in media, and how we can influence change in our community and beyond.

The Mistruths in Reality will build on the momentum that has already been generated by Dallas Women’s Foundation’s screenings of Miss Representation in late 2012 and February 2013, and their Gender in Media Forum and Luncheon in February 2013. This panel discussion and keynote address by Sil Lai Abrams will provide focus and guidance for discussion around impressions of reality television, implications for our daily lives, and practical solutions to drive positive change in the community, especially for women and girls of color.
