To commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Safe Horizon joins TruthInReality.org, a media advocacy organization, in its mission to end the cable industry’s use of domestic violence as entertainment on reality television.

Safe Horizon board member Sil Lai Abrams, herself a survivor of domestic violence, is leading the effort to address the issue of reality television’s promotion of intimate partner violence and negative stereotypes about women. TruthInReality.org and Safe Horizon believe that the use of domestic violence as entertainment should not be condoned nor accepted. Research has shown that there is a link between our media consumption and our behavior.  On reality television, domestic violence is not only highlighted, but often encouraged - simply for the purpose of increasing ratings, with no regard to the impact the violence has on those watching it.
