NEW YORK, NY-- Truth in Reality, a flourishing media advocacy organization founded to combat the harmful effects of violent reality television by changing the manner in which women of color are portrayed with the goal of reducing the cultural acceptance of gender-based violence in the Black community, proudly announces communications specialist Jeff Johnson as its newest National Advisory Council member.
Johnson is an award-winning journalist, communications specialist, and thought leader who is currently a partner and Chief of Strategy for the Baltimore based branding firm Illume Communications and CEO and co-founder of Elite Voices Speakers. Johnson has extended his communications expertise across the nation in various capacities. He has worked with BET, MSNBC, Fox News, XM Radio, Sirius Satellite Radio and The Dr. Phil Show. His knowledge of cultural and political affairs is featured on TheRoot.com and the nationally syndicated Rickey Smiley Morning Show for which he regularly provides content. Johnson recently collaborated with Steve Harvey on his latest book, Act Like A Success, Think Like A Success.
Johnson knows the importance of creating positive messages for society’s youth and has consciously done so throughout his career. Much of Johnson’s personal and professional life is dedicated to the development of young people. He serves on several boards including the Morehouse Research Institute, Cleveland State University School of Urban Affairs, and the historic Lincoln Theatre in Columbus, OH. He has also served as the Vice President of the Hip Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) and the National Director for the Youth & College Division of the NAACP.

In his role with Truth in Reality, Johnson will work to ensure the health and success of the organization by guiding its development of solutions towards creating systemic change in society’s existing violent narrative of Black women in the media. Johnson will also assist in Truth in Reality’s recruitment of potential partners while strengthening existing alliances made by the organization. With his thought leadership and expertise in communications, Johnson will contribute towards helping expose Truth in Reality to a greater audience.
